One of the most iconic and beloved species found here is the red squirrel, a rare sight in other parts of the UK but thriving on the Sefton Coast thanks to dedicated conservation efforts. Other notable wildlife include the natterjack toad, a distinctive and endangered species that can be found in the dune slacks, and the green-winged orchid, a stunning flower that blooms in the spring. The Sefton Coast is also a haven for birdwatchers, with over 300 species recorded in the area, including the majestic avocet and the elusive bittern. But it’s not just the wildlife that makes the Sefton Coast so special. The landscape itself is constantly changing due to the power of the tides and winds, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving environment.
